  • Date:Online Course
  • Location:GS1 US Learning Management System (LMS)

Are you a retail, hospital, or chain pharmacy who is preparing to receive products and cases from suppliers who are using GS1 Standards to implement the DSCSA? Learn about the DSCSA requirements suppliers are implementing and how to prepare your systems and business processes for the DSCSA.

DSCSA Dispenser

The U.S. Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) was passed into law in 2013, marking the beginning of the pharmaceutical supply chain’s journey through lot-level management, product serialization, and finally item-level traceability by 2023.  In response, implementation of the DSCSA is underway across the pharmaceutical supply chain, and many industry members have been using GS1 Standards to meet those requirements.*

According to the statute, “dispensers” include retail pharmacies, hospital pharmacies, and chain pharmacies. The purpose of this course is to educate DSCSA Dispensers about the application of GS1 Standards to DSCSA requirements to help them prepare their systems and business processes.

This course will introduce and explain key concepts about GS1 Barcodes used for products and homogeneous cases, GS1 Application Identifiers used to encode DSCSA data in barcodes, types of barcode scanners, and GS1 Standards that support DSCSA data exchange.  The course is intended to prepare you for receiving products and cases from Suppliers using GS1 Standards to implement DSCSA, and to assist you in leveraging the standards for your DSCSA implementation.
